Peel Plate SA Microbial Test for Staph
Staphylococcus aureus can be found on the skin and hair and in the noses and throats of people and animals.
In a food processing environment, these bacteria can be present in eggs, meat, poultry, milk, and dairy products and spread through hand contact with environmental surfaces or hand-prepared food items. S. aureus multiplies quickly at room temperature and can produce enterotoxins that cause illness and vomiting when ingested. This makes Staphyococcus aureus contamination is one of the most common food borne illnesses.
The Peel Plate SA Microbial Test has AOAC-RI PTMSM Certification 082401.
Benefits of Charm Microbial Peel Plate Tests
- Ready-to-use. Self-wicking; no spreading device needed.
- Colonies easily transferred or picked for additional confirmation/isolation/classification.
- Improved air circulation with spacing between stacked, interlocked plates.
- Buffered media formulation for robust performance with acidic foods and neutralizing buffers.
- pH adjustments not required for most samples.
- 12-month refrigerated shelf-life in a resealable foil zip bag.
- AOAC-RI PTMSM 082401 verified for non-fat dried milk, frozen raw cod fish, corned beef, frozen raw vegetables, potato salad, vegetable soup, frozen unshelled raw shrimp and baby food (apple, cinnamon, and granola) at 35-37 °C.
Staphylococcus Aureus Testing Solution
The Peel Plate SA Microbial Test is a prepared culture medium used for the enzymatic detection and enumeration of Staph aureus bacteria in finished products and environmental samples.
Peel Plate SA Microbial Test kits are used for testing non-cultured liquid and solid foods, as well as environmental sponge samples. The purple-colored colonies of coagulase-positive S. aureus are easily distinguished against the light background of the Peel Plate and easily differentiated from the green and green-blue colonies of most coagulase-negative Staphylococci and related Enterococci species.
S. aureus bacteria appear within 24 hours, with an additional 24 hours for purple colony presumptive positive determination (48 hours total) at 35 to 37°C. Tests with no growth at 24 hours are considered negative for S. aureus. Presumptive positive colonies are confirmed Staph aureus following FDA-BAM procedures for verifying the enzymes catalase and coagulase positive.

The Peel Plate Advantage
Tests are very easy to use and do not require a spreader device. Samples are completely contained within the Peel Plates, reducing potential contamination from leakage.
Colonies can be easily transferred or picked for confirmation testing, additional isolation, or classification.
Charm Peel Plates Microbial Tests are easily interpreted with final results for Staphylococcus aureus in 24-48 hours with no overlays required.
